| NYC / Vienna Game Boy Match Report | 2003 05 03 | |
Last Sunday Bit Shifter participated in an evening at OpenAir, as part of the Austrian Cultural Forum's Moving Patterns festival. The focus of the evening was an intercontinental web-linked Game Boy match between the Big Apple's 8Bit Masters/NYC and Austria's Spielgemeinschaft GB Vienna. The two teams alternated sets and despite some technical difficulties, everything went smoothly, and the performances on both sides were truly incredible. Nullsleep, Glomag, and Bit Shifter represented New York, with a virtual contribution in absentia by Mark DeNardo. Bit Shifter's contribution was the brand-new stormer "Parapersona Crash," a hyperkinetic 8-bit assault with only a brief micro-dub interlude as a respite. Performances and events continued into the evening after the conclusion of the match. Highlights of the evening included Nullsleep's performance using a hot-rodded Game Boy tricked out with a PC keyboard controller, a 4-way performance by a quartet of Nanoloop artists in Vienna, and an impromptu collaboration between Bit Shifter and visiting Viennese Game Boy artist Meike Randow, involving synchronized Game Boys running Nanoloop and some seriously slammin' beats. Bit Shifter has been mentioned in an article covering the event published by Austrian online newspaper derStandard. If anyone who knows German wants to translate this for me I'd be hugely appreciative! Enormous thanks to Chris Burke of Glomag for helping organize the event, the Austrian Cultural Forum, o.blaat, NYC event moderators Dorit Chrysler and Hans Groisz, Meike Randow, Nullsleep, Mark DeNardo, OpenAir Bar and the Share weekly event staff, Geoff GDAM, and everyone who came to check it out. |
