The Blip Festival, held from November 30th through December 3rd, was by all accounts an unimaginable success. 32 low-bit chiptune acts and micromusicians, and 5 cutting-edge visualists assembled in downtown New York from nine different countries, bringing the chiptune community's characteristic mutual admiration out from the virtual world and into the physical. It didn't hurt that the festival's four days were witnessed by over 1300 attendees, creating a mood of unmistakable excitement and anticipation, and really casting an air of history over the whole thing. It was one of the best experiences I've had personally and enormous thanks go out to The Tank, Mike Rosenthal, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Neil Voss, Chris Kann, 2-Player Productions, and all of the participants and attendees.
Seemingly endless photos (try here and here for starters) and videos have surfaced documenting the event, and it's all very hush-hush for now but leave a little slot on your DVD shelf for a special little artifact to come. If you have any photos or videos, please let us know, get in touch with me at bit . shifter [at] bit . shifter . net (removing spaces etc.).
Best news of all -- Blip 2007. Stay tuned.
